How to Pick and Prepare Canned Peaches

I used a quart jar of our homemade canned peaches in this recipe although canned peaches from a commercial source are also acceptable.

You can substitute the canned peaches with fresh peaches or frozen peaches if canned peaches are not available. If you decide to use frozen peaches, you should bring them to room temperature before using them in this recipe. Otherwise, your peach cobbler will take longer to bake.

You need to toss your sliced peaches with sugar in step one of the recipe as it will bind with the juice from the fruit to create a thick syrup while also adding sweetness.

If your cobbler is still soupy, you can add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the peach mixture so that the juices will thicken during baking.

When are Peaches in Season?

Typically, peaches are harvested between May and August, which is why peach cobbler is usually a summer recipe. However, when you use canned peaches, you can make it any time of year!

If you prefer to use fresh peaches, that is totally fine too! Just use about 6 peaches sliced into small pieces, or about 4 cups of sliced peaches.

Awesome, easy recipe. I used a 16 oz. jar of refrigerated peaches, added a pinch of cardamon, a handful of chopped pecans, and a tsp. of cinnamon. Made it in the am, refrigerated it until dinner, heated in microwave, and served with half and half cream. Yum! My new favorite cobbler. Thank you.

The easiest and the best! buttery crust and sweet peaches! I sprinkle a little more sugar on top of peaches. Most peaches are canned in their own juices! But this is a cobbler, I like the sweetness! Thank you for the recipe!
