Frozen potato/cheese pierogis are a regular dinnertime dish at our house. Mr Plain is a big fan of them. I have never made them from scratch, but, we have eaten them fresh from restaurants and our local farmers market. He tells that mine are better.
Yes, the frozen ones from the package. To each his own, right?
Well, I prefer the fresh, but, until fresh are made in my kitchen, which may not be happening too soon, the frozen will have to do.
This casserole gives regular frozen {or fresh} pierogis a little extra pizazz.
It’s pierogis, cheese, more cheese and bacon… and isn’t everything a little better with cheese and bacon?
What a wonderful recipe! It was very popular on RecipeNewZ and is now featured on our "hall of fame" Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/RecipeNewZ Congratulations and have a delicious weekend!
I made this the other night for my husband and I and I followed the recipe completely. We both really loved this dish but I had to bake it in an 8×8 dish because there was not nearly enough Pierogi's to fill the bottom of a 9×13 pan. Not quite sure what happened – has anyone else had this issue?? I will be making this again for sure but next time I will probably double the recipe so it fits into a 9×13 dish.
@Anon743P..I'm so sorry that you had a problem, I haven't heard any similar issues with it. The only thing that I can think of is possibly a size difference with the pierogis? I am glad your family liked them..please let me know if you have any other questions!
Making this as I type! I doubled the recipe for my family of 6. We are not big Bacon people (crazy I know) so I'm using an 8oz bag of diced ham, and putting with the dish to bake. Can't wait to try it! Thanks for the recipe!
About how many servings approximently? I want to take this for Christmas Eve to our family get-together, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to double it. This looks delicious! Thanks for sharing.
Made this last week with some leftover spiral ham instead of the bacon–was a big hit. My hubby had never had pierogis before and he loved it–so much so that he asked me to make it again this wee!. This time I'm trying it with chicken (since that's what I have). Can't wait to try it!
What a great way to use the leftover ham! Let me know how the chicken goes..we love chicken around here and I 'm always looking for new chicken recipes 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it..thank you!
I wouldn't skip the cream cheese, it adds a creamy texture to the dish. A similar cheese may work, but, I haven't experimented with anything else though..sorry!
It's is such a high cholesterol recipe I want to try it but I will alter it by adding fresh asparagus and turkey bacon, then add 2000mg of fish oil to that nights supplements
I haven't tried this recipe (about to make it actually) but I know whenever I am out of chicken broth, a vegitable broth also does the trick, and even though it would change the flavor slightly, you could do a beef. Sounds like the chicken broth is used for thinning out the cream cheese and while adding flavor, could get substituted.
I did try it and it worked out great! I put onions on the bottom, and then some chicken brests I needed to use up, the perogies on top (frozen) and poured the sauce over and googled some other recipes for the approximate time and put it on high for around 3 hours and a bit – yum!!
I'm going to be making this tonight. I will alter it a bit. I will be adding in onion and garlic (We are huge fans of onions and garlic) And I will also be adding ham since that is what I have and bacon is so expensive. I got a really good deal on ham at Sam's Club the other day. So now I have 4 ham stakes in my freezer waiting to be used.
This was an amazing dish that hubby and I really enjoyed and, oh, so easy to make too! I used nine slices of bacon instead of three and hubby thought I should use more next time. Thanks for sharing!
I will be making this real soon we love Pierogies at our house my Husband got me started on them this is what he does is lots of onions cut into rings and cooks them down with lots of butter then puts in some kielbasa and cooks it for a while then puts in the Rierogies and cooks it for a while then when all done puts it on the plate and puts on some sour cream and boy are they good but filling.

Hi Dallas! I have never used the sour cream, but, it should be ok. I would cut back on chicken broth a little. The sour cream will be a bit more liquidity.
I'll have to try this! I don't usually make baked pasta dishes, but just putting frozen pasta in a dish wouldn't be that bad!
Boy, that looks good!
I want to try this but where do i get frozen pierogis from xxx
In the frozen dinner section at your local grocery store. There called Mrs. T's Pierogies.
Yes. I get mine at walmart in the frozen section. Mrs t's

Tracy – They're in the kosher section of the freezer.

Sounds awesome Holly! Let me know how it turns out.
Made it for our Saturday guys' dinner and it was guy approved! I used bacon pieces rather than frying fresh bacon. I also doubled the recipe. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Great recipe, try making the sauce on the bacon fat for some extra bacony goodness, also Pierogi is already plural, no need for an 's'!
Thanks Dave for the tip 🙂
I made it tonight and it was gone in five minutes! They loved it!
That's awesome Angela! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
This is literally the best cassarole I have ever had. Next time I making it, I am making two of them. We ate it in record time!
So glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for letting me know.

Hi Bethany- This serves about 4 adults, so, if you are feeding a big crowd, doubling it would be a good idea. Enjoy 🙂
Very yummy everyone should make it quick and easy
Thank you..glad ou enjoyed it!

The chicken was great! Tonight we will be having it with bacon. Can't wait!
I don't have cream cheese is there something I could use instead? Or just the broth?
I wouldn't skip the cream cheese, it adds a creamy texture to the dish. A similar cheese may work, but, I haven't experimented with anything else though..sorry!
A little late in seeing this, but I'm wondering if a cream soup would work (cream of chicken seems like a possibility)?
It may work, you may need to use a bit of broth or water with it to thin it out just a smidgen. The condensed may be too overly thick on its own.
It's is such a high cholesterol recipe I want to try it but I will alter it by adding fresh asparagus and turkey bacon, then add 2000mg of fish oil to that nights supplements
Great idea!
I made these about a month ago, my husband requested them again tonight! They are amazing!!
That's awesome! So glad to hear you liked them 🙂
Wondering what I could use instead of the chicken broth, I have a poultry allergy.

Hi,
Thanks, I was actually just think about using a veggie broth in place of the chicken.
Could I make this in the slow cooker I wonder? I have a teachers'potluck this week and this would be perfect…
You probably could, I haven't tried it in the slow cooker yet. If you do..please let me know..I love cooking in mine 🙂

Yay! That's great! I am always looking for easy meals to toss in my crock pot 🙂 Thank you so much for letting me know.
O.M.G. and that's what's for dinner tonight!!! But the calories???? I'll diet tomorrow 🙂
LOL! Love it Peggy! Hope you enjoyed it..

Hope you enjoy 🙂 The ham sounds delicious!
This was awesome!! Had my parents and brother over for dinner so I doubled the recipe and it vanished very quickly.
Yay! So glad it was a hit! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know.
Made this for dinner last night and my husband loved it. Thanks for sharing this very easy but great tasting recipe.
I'm so glad you and your husband enjoyed it Dawn! Thank you so much for letting me know 🙂

nine slices of bacon instead of three and hubby thought I should use more next time. Thanks for sharing!
A little more bacon is always good 😉 So glad you enjoyed it..thanks for letting me know!
Very good! I doubled the sauce & added little cocktail hotdogs instead of bacon. Turned out great!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it!
