    1. My dump cake recipe is different from the one posted. I have written mine here.
      1 box yellow cake mix
1 can of favorite pie filling
1 can of crushed pineapple (with juices)
1 stick of butter (cut in Pat’s
      Chopped nuts
Empty pie filling and pineapple into baking pan, cover with unmixed cake mix, top with butter patties and chopped nuts.
Bake for 1 hr. Remove and let cool. Service with whipped cream or ice cream.

  2. I'd like to try a half recipe in an 8" x 8" dish, using a 1-layer size mix and only 1 can of filling. Any idea how long I should bake it for…?

    1. Hi Jason- It comes down to the depth of the pan size. I would check it after about 30-40 minutes and keep a close eye on it. I haven't cut the recipe (we eat too much of it around here :), so, I can't say a specific time amount.
Hope that helps! Thanks for dropping by…

  3. The instructions state "make cake mix according to the box directions ". So, do you COMPLETELY mix the cake according to the directions, INCLUDING the butter and water…..THEN use the stick of butter and 1 / 2 cup water as EXTRA? Or, do you use the butter and water from the box directions as the topping?

    1. Hi dione! yes, mix the cake mix as directed, then butterwater are additional.

  4. I added allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples, mixed them in and also added some to the cake batter

  5. Can you use Granny Smith apples instead of the canned ones?

8×8 Pan for moms Apple dump cake?

    1. Hi Marcy- I haven’t tried this yet, but, it sounds like a great idea! If you do give it a try, please let me know how it works out 🙂

  7. Do you flip the pan upside down when done…..or scoop it out? Thanks

    1. Hi Nancy- I just scoop it out and spoon the apples on top of the cake. Enjoy!

  8. Found a simaler recipe a few years ago. A great hack…
Replace water in the cake mix and the toper with apple cider (not apple juice! (tried it and it was horrible)
Also use butter in cake mix instead of oil (bet alot of you do that anyway)
You won’t belive the difference, the cake has the most beautiful golden caramelized top and the taste is crazy good!
