Ingredients That You’ll Need:
Here is a brief summary of the ingredients required for Pioneer Woman’s Chicken and Dressing Casserole. As always, precise measurements and thorough cooking directions are included in the recipe box below.
- Chicken: About 4 cups of cooked, shredded chicken are required. If you like, you can cook your own chicken at home. I use store-bought rotisserie chicken for wonderful flavor and ease of preparation.
- Cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken soup: These form the base of the sauce for the creamy dish. However, you may substitute two cans of other favorite condensed soup flavors if you like. I prefer the soups from the “Healthy Request” range, but any similar variety will do.
- Milk: Milk helps dilute the sauce.
- Butter: The melted butter coats the stuffing mix to create a flavorful, crispy topping for your Pioneer Woman’s Chicken and Dressing Casserole.
- Stuffing mix: Combine the dry mix with melted butter — do not prepare the stuffing according to the instructions on the package as you don’t want it to turn into fluffy stuffing. Instead, it should resemble a crispy, buttered breadcrumb topping bursting with flavor. Either 8 ounces (about 3 3/4 cups) of Pepperidge Farm stuffing (my favorite) or Stove Top stuffing may be used.
What is the Best Bread for Stuffing?
I prefer sourdough, although baguette, ciabatta, or any Italian-style bread would suffice. I would not recommend rye or pumpernickel for this dish because their flavors are too robust.
Pre-cut or packaged stuffing mixtures contain small bread cubes. I prefer to purchase a whole loaf and cut the pieces somewhat larger (about 1 inch).

This recipe looks delicious. I don't care if it has canned cream soups. You don't have to make this that often but will be if one craves a great chicken and dressing meal. Thanks so much. My whole family will really enjoy it. I might even make it on Thanksgiving!
