Chicken Teriyaki Burgers (or Sliders) with Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 cup teriyaki sauce divided ( store bought or below recipe)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon green onions
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • salt/pepper to taste preference
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil for pan
  • hamburger buns

FOR TERIYAKI SAUCE:

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions
 

MAKE TERIYAKI SAUCE:

  • In a saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, water, red pepper flakes, minced garlic and ginger.
  • Bring mixture to a boil, then, reduce heat to simmer.
  • Add cornstarch in small bowl, remove 2 TBSP of heated mixture and whisk into cornstarch until smooth.
  • Add back into saucepan and let mixture simmer until thicken.
  • This should take approx 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in honey.
  • Keep in covered container in refrigerator. Use within a week or two.

FOR BURGERS:

  • In a bowl, combine ground chicken, teriyaki sauce, egg white, green onion, breadcrumbs and salt/pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Form into 4 burgers or 8 mini burgers for sliders.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet.
  • Cook burgers in skillet for approx 5 minutes on each side. Just to get brown.
  • Then add remaining teriyaki into pan and coat burgers.
  • Continue cooking for 5-8 minutes or until cook thoroughly.
  • If you are cooking sliders, cook each for approx 3 minutes on each side, then, add remaining teriyaki
  • sauce and cook another 5 minutes.
  • Serve on buns with desired garnish.
