Notes
You don’t like mushrooms? Cream of mushroom soup can be substituted with cream of chicken soup.
Do you love cheese? To make this classic casserole recipe even more cheesy, top the soup and sour cream mixture with 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
Replace the stove top stuffing mix with your own homemade stuffing.
In place of sour cream, Greek yogurt is a great addition to the soup.
You can also make your own cream of chicken soup if you like.
As an alternative to cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery or cream of chicken soup can be used.
Make this recipe more interesting by substituting boneless pork chops for the chicken.
Leftover turkey is perfect for this!
Use a different stuffing mix for a different taste. The recipe calls for chicken stuffing, but cornbread stuffing or any other savory stuffing would work well, as well.
It’s quick and easy to make using leftover chicken breast or rotisserie chicken. It only takes 10-15 minutes to bake until it is heated through.
Try using two cans of condensed mushroom soup rather than just one if you want a creamier casserole.
To ensure easy cleanup, spray your casserole pan with cooking spray before adding your ingredients.
To make this dish an all-in-one dish, you can add canned green beans to the diced chicken.
Make sure you use hot water for your stuffing. Otherwise, it won’t soften properly.
