  • Olive Oil: This is used to sauté the onion, bell pepper, and cloves to create a flavor.
  • Onion: Dice up the onion the best you can without too many tears.
  • Green Bell Pepper: Cut into small chunks depending on your preference.
  • Garlic Cloves: I prefer fresh cloves but you are welcome to use the jarred minced garlic as a substitute.
  • Ground Beef: Lean ground beef gives flavor but also less fat and grease.
  • Beef Broth: Adds in flavor and liquid while cooking.
  • Tomato: Sauce and diced tomatoes come in a can for a quick dump in the pot.
  • Beans: Pinto and kidney beans give a good mixture of tender and soft beans.
  • Seasonings: Chili powder, oregano, cumin, coriander, salt, and cayenne mixed giving the chili a sweet, spicy, and savory flavoring.

What To Serve With Pioneer Woman Chili?

How To Store Pioneer Woman Chili In The Fridge?

Once the Pioneer Woman chili has cooled, store it in an airtight container or ziplock bag in the refrigerator. Keep in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days. It may be warmed in a pot or microwave.

How To Thaw Frozen Pioneer Woman Chili?

Water Bath Thawing:

Filling your sink or a wide basin with cold tap water is one of the simplest ways to defrost a frozen Pioneer Woman chili. Place the sealed chili package inside and let it for a few hours. Stir the water occasionally to disperse the cold, then flip the package over once or twice.

It is preferable to use cold/room temperature water rather than warm or hot water. If the water is excessively warm, the exterior sections of the Pioneer Woman chili package will thaw too quickly, putting bacterial development at risk.

You don’t want water getting into your Pioneer Woman chili, so make sure the package is tightly sealed. If you’re not sure, wrap it in a Ziploc bag and squeeze out all the air before submerging it in water

Use The Fridge:

If you have more time (ideally overnight), take the chili out of the freezer and place it in the refrigerator to defrost. Even better, place the chili packet in a bowl of water and put it in the refrigerator.

Recipe Variations

There are so many different ways to make this Pioneer Woman chili thicker, spicier, or even with cocoa powder! That’s a tasty treat in your chili. If you change up some of the ingredients, you can end up with a white chicken chili, which is another beloved chili in our family.

Experiment with these variations to see what you can come up with!

  • Vegetables: Potatoes, carrots, celery, mushrooms, or zucchini are all great add-ins for sautéing at the beginning.
  • Meat: Substitute the beef for turkey, steak, Italian sausage, or chicken.
  • Seasonings: Try using taco seasoning for a tex-tex taste.
  • Smokey Taste: Adobe sauce or paprika or liquid smoke for a smoky taste.
  • Beef Broth: Don’t have beef broth? Chicken or even water will help keep it thick and will simmer well with either liquid.
  • Sugar: Sounds crazy, right! Sugar adds a bit of sweetness. Cocoa powder will also add a subtle hint of sweetness with a savory taste of chocolate. It is a must-try! Just a teaspoon will do the trick!
