Recipe Notes:

  • If desired, you can double this recipe, then, stash an extra loaf in your freezer for a later date. Simply keep the cooled loaf in a freezer safe, covered container/storage bag. When you are ready, defrost before eating. It will be good for a couple of months.
  • Be sure not to over mix your batter. Mix just until there are no dry spots left. Over mixing can give you a dense loaf of banana bread.

Moist banana bread with swirl of chocolate.

Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes


  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 ripe banana, smashed
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9 in loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix butter and bananas. Add in sugar, egg and vanilla. Add flour, cinnamon and baking soda in slowly. Mix until no dry spots remain.
  3. In a separate bowl, melt chocolate chips until smooth.
  4. Take 1 cup of batter and mix with melted chocolate.
  5. Pour plain batter into prepared pan. Spoon chocolate batter on top. Marble with a knife.
  6. Bake 40-45 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean.
