These Japanese tofu recipes are very mouthwatering, which should come as no surprise given that tofu is a staple ingredient in a wide variety of meals throughout Asia. Even better, they are not only healthful but also laden with an astounding amount of taste.

One of the numerous traditional meals served in Chinese restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia is sizzling fried Japanese tofu. These countries also have a large Chinese population. The silky egg tofu and small bits of minced beef are cooked in a rich sauce until the sauce thickens, and then they are presented on a platter that is sizzling hot.

Because egg is an ingredient in Japanese tofu, you can use regular tofu in its place if you like. Tofu of a medium or even firm consistency, not silky tofu. There are certain supermarket stores that do not have egg tofu; for example, the Korean grocery store I went to did not have it. You can also make it at home rather easily as a backup alternative; I’ll provide the recipe for that in a little while.

4. Vegan Sizzling Beef Pepper Rice

This Sizzling ‘Beef’ Pepper Rice is a vegan version of the famous Beef Pepper Rice that is served at Pepper Lunch, which is a chain of fast food restaurants. Back when I was in high school, one of my go-to lunches whenever I would go out with friends was a Pepper Lunch because the quick-service food courts in the malls here typically had Pepper Lunch.

If you want to use soy chunks or curls, start with 30 grams of dried soy chunks or curls, then rehydrate them by soaking them in boiling hot water for a few minutes. Squeeze out the excess liquid. You may flavor the soy chunks or curls that you are frying with some of the sweet brown sauce or even some teriyaki sauce if you so want.

5. Sizzling Tofu
