Jamie Oliver Cheesy Garlic Bread

You may cut it and rip it apart, and each individual piece will retain the flavor and goodness of the cheese. This cheesy garlic bread will be gone in a matter of minutes, and it tastes incredible when it’s still warm. We love making garlic bread, and this recipe is one of our go-to’s since it’s so easy to put together. It is stuffed with cheese and made with one of the finest bread that can be found.

Homemade traditional baked spaghetti or chicken parmesan casserole dinner would be perfect with a serving of this garlic bread to go along with it to round out the meal. These two Italian dishes go wonderfully with this cheesy garlic bread, which is a classic Italian side dish.

Jamie Oliver Garlic Bread Ingredients

  • French Bread. My preferred variety is the one that comes from the bakery section of the grocery store and has fresh bread that is ready to be purchased. If you want the bread to be seen, cut it in half lengthwise.
  • Butter. To be spread on top of the bread halves when still salted and after being softened.
  • Garlic Powder. The butter spread gets a combination of garlic taste from the addition of this ingredient.
  • Garlic Cloves. The addition of minced garlic cloves not only provides a little texture but also enhances the flavor of the butter and cheese.
  • Italian Seasoning. Italian spice is an essential component of any garlic bread. It captures the essence of each season in a single bottle, just the way it should be.
  • Colby Jack Cheese And Mozzarella Cheese. Have the finest melting qualities when subjected to high temperatures and also have the flavor of an Italian cheese combination.
  • Parsley. Chopped and used as a garnish for added flavor and color!

Is It Possible To Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil In This Recipe?

Extra virgin – oil has a more robust flavor than ordinary olive oil, which has been purified more. Therefore I find that when I make this dish, I like to stick with conventional olive oil. But if you only have extra-virgin olive oil on hand and you don’t mind the flavor of the oil peeking through the cheese on the garlic bread, then by all means use the EVOO.

Can I Use Unsalted Butter?

Yes, however, you could probably add a little bit extra salt to the garlicky cheese toast before serving it.

Why Is My Garlic Bread Soggy?

  • If the garlic bread is allowed to lay out for an excessive amount of time before it is baked, or if it is baked at a temperature that is too low, the bread may get soggy.
  • For this recipe, we will first bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the cheese is melted, which should take about 10 minutes. After that, we will raise the temperature to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for the remaining baking time, which should take about 8 minutes, or until it begins to brown on the top. Maintain a close eye on it to prevent it from going up in flames.
  • I like to use a dense loaf of French bread that weighs one pound so that I can cut it in half and still end up with two pieces that are substantial enough to support the layer of garlic butter spread and cheese on top.

How To Make Jamie Oliver Garlic Bread

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place your French bread loaf on top of a baking sheet and cut it lengthwise.
  • Combine melted butter, garlic powder, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl. Distribute equally on both sides of the garlic bread. Colby Jack and mozzarella cheese are sprinkled on top.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the butter is melted and bubbling. To achieve a crisper top, broil the top for 1-2 minutes toward the end.
  • If desired, garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

What To Serve With Garlic Bread?

  • Marinated Meatballs
  • Tortellini With Ham
  • Beef Soup
  • Grilled Fish
  • Cheese Spread
  • Your Favorite Steak
  • Grilled Chicken
  • Fresh Vegetable Salad

Recipe Variation

  • Add More Garlic. If you are a fan of garlic, add two to four cloves of fresh garlic that has been minced or chopped very finely to the butter mixture. Because of this, the bread will be bursting with the flavor of garlic and will have a bit of a grainy texture.
  • Spicy. Add some crushed red pepper or pieces of pickled jalapenos, whatever you choose.
  • Use More Cheese. Add more cheeses like Monterey jack, fresh mozzarella, asiago, fontina, pecorino romano, Colby jack, provolone, or cheddar to this garlic bread to make it cheesier.
  • To Be Served Hot. This recipe for cheesy garlic bread is at its absolute peak when it is served just out of the oven when it is still warm. It is imperative that the cheese on top is properly melted and stringy before serving.
  • Bread. There are a few different alternatives available, but my personal preference is to use a loaf of French bread. Ciabatta, sourdough, or Italian bread are all good options; but, if you’re in need, sandwich rolls or hot dog buns will do just fine.
  • Add Additional Flavor. This garlic bread lends itself well to experimentation and personalization in terms of flavoring. The use of truffles, red chili flakes, dried or fresh herbs, pesto, or roasted garlic are all examples of potential flavoring additions.

How To Store Garlic Bread?

  • In The Fridge. Store Garlic Bread leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • In The Freezer. Allow your Garlic Bread to come to room temperature, then store it in an airtight container for freezer-safe bags then transfer it to the freezer for up to 2 months.
  • To Make Ahead. Prepare the bread as outlined and cut it into slices but Don’t bake it. Flash freeze it for 40 minutes, then transfer it to an airtight freezer bag and freeze it for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, bake it at 350° until the cheese is melted, (about 13 minutes). Then increase heat to 450° and bake until the top begins to brown, (up to 8 more minutes).
  • To Reheat. To reheat garlic bread, simply wrap it in foil and bake it at 350° until heated through, about 10 minutes for refrigerated or 15-20 minutes for frozen. To reheat it in the microwave, turn the power down to around 40% and reheat with a cover over it for 1 minute or so. If the bread gets too hot, it will lose its texture and become very chewy.

Top Recipe Tips

  • Before placing the bread halves on the baking sheet, gently spray it with cooking spray.
  • To make the butter spread on the toast spicier, try adding some crushed red pepper, paprika, or chopped jalapenos.
  • When you bake the bread, there is no need to cover it with anything. If you see that it is baking too rapidly, cover it with aluminum foil to make it look like a tent. This will prevent it from overbaking too quickly.
  • It is recommended to serve the dish when it is still warm; however, you should wait a few minutes before slicing and serving it.
  • If you want your garlic cheese bread to have a slightly crispier outside, broil it for one to two minutes during the final minute or two that it is baked.
  • Please be patient until the garlic bread cools for a few minutes before slicing and serving it. It tastes the best when it’s warm but not hot out of the oven!
