What Are Pork Belly Strips?

Cuts are made from the underside of a pig that is fat and boneless. The part of the animal that remains after the loin and ribs have been removed.

Pork belly is the same cut as bacon. While the thick slices and strips are usually fresh and still have their skins, the bacon is skinned, thinly sliced, cured, and smoked prior to consumption. Sliced, cured, but unsmoked pieces of Italian pancetta.

Is Pork Belly The Same As Bacon?

No, not exactly. The two types of meat come from the same area of the animal’s abdomen, but bacon is typically smoked, cured, and thinly sliced, while pork belly is fresh.

Pork belly is usually sold whole. Even when it is sliced, the slices are usually much thicker than bacon slices. Again, the meat is fresh – not cured, smoked, dried, or salted.

Where Can I Buy Pork Belly Slices?

They are available at Costco and sometimes at Whole Foods. Can’t find them? You can also buy a whole pork belly and cut it into strips yourself.

You’ll need a sharp chef’s knife and some patience, but it’s possible. You can do it.

You will need to remove the skin if you have a skin-on belly. That’s a bit more difficult, but I’ve managed it as well and then made tasty pork rinds with the skin.

  1. At least 30 minutes before cooking, rub your favorite dry rub on the meat.
  2. In addition, you can marinate it for at least three and up to twelve hours in your favorite marinade. When grilling, let any excess marinade drip off.
  3. Fire up the grill.
