Have you ever made homemade mayonnaise?

It never even dawned on me until we ran out of it one day and I needed it for a recipe. It was totally ridiculous that I ever bought it to begin with. Besides myself, there is only one other person in our house that eats it and we only eat it ever few months. Kinda a waste of money for us.

So, I opted to try it homemade. It’s incredibly easy and tastes so much better than the store bought version!.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Oil
  • Egg
  • Lemon juice

Oil: I stick with a neutral tasting oil for homemade mayo. Canola, vegetable , sunflower or olive oil will all work.

This is a very basic version, but, you can flavor it up anyway you wish.

Some ideas:

  • Mustard
  • Dry spice blends
  • Lemon
  • Red pepper
  • Chives

Endless possibilities!

Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • dash of salt, optional

  1. In a jar, add oil. Add in egg and let it completely settle into oil. Add in lemon juice.
  2. Completely submerge a stick blender into jar.
  3. Turn the power on and let it run for about 20 seconds without moving it. The mayo will then start to form and you can then move the blender around a bit.
  4. Continue until fully blended.
  5. Taste mayo and adjust with more lemon/salt if desired.
  6. Keep leftovers covered in fridge for no more then 2 weeks.
  7. If you do not have a stick submersion blender, you can also use a food processor, a regular blender or by hand with a whisk.
