    I am not going to take responsibility for these bars.  They are my mom’s fault.  If you make them and attempt to eat an entire pan, not my fault. It’s hers.  If your family fights over the last one or insist on snacking on M&M’s and marshmallows all day, remember…my mom, not me. Let me explain.

    On a recent visit to her house, she gave me about 15-20 old magazines with recipes.  “These will be great for your blog!” She was so very excited.  She also  handed me about 30 of those paperback cookbooks that you buy at the checkout in the grocery store. These, I didn’t get complete access to.  The stack had to be split up with one of my sisters. That was fine with me.  Storing 30 cookbooks even though thin, is not something my tiny kitchen can handle.  Also, could my waistline handle all the sweets that were filled in the pages? I don’t think so.

    In that stack of cookbooks were these bars.  Whew..these were good.  Really, good.  They are definitely something that won’t be stocked in my fridge on a regular basis, but, a very nice treat for us.

    They are filled will chocolate, marshmallow and topped off with some M&M’s just for fun.’s got chocolate syrup drizzled on top.  Yep. Dangerously good. 
    And, just to warn you, out of the 10 or so cookbooks my mom gave me, my kids circled about a zillion dessert recipes for us to try. 
    So, get ready for more to come!

    Rocky Road Bars

    Ingredients (12-24 bars, depending on how y)
    • 1 box- chocolate cake mix
    • 1/2 cup melted butter
    • 1/3 cup water
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup chopped walnuts
    • 4 cups mini marshmallows
    • 3/4 cup M & M candies
    • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13 x 9 baking dish.
    In a mixing bowl, combine cake mix, butter, water brown sugar and eggs. Mix until well combined.
    Stir in walnuts
    Spread batter in prepared pan.
    Bake for 20 minutes. Sprinkle the top with marshmallows and return to oven. Bake an additional 10-15 minutes or until marshmallows are puffed up and golden.
    When baking time is done, remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with M&M’s.
    Let it cool for approx 5-8 minutes. Drizzle top with chocolate syrup.
    Cool completely before serving.
